How to make it
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Add the apples, pears, brown sugar and cinnamon to a saucepan over medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, just until the fruit begins to soften. You don’t want it completely soft yet since it’ll keep cooking in the oven.
Transfer the fruit to an 8x8 baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
For the crumble, mix the flour, oats, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Add the cold cubed butter and use your fingertips to rub it into the dry ingredients until you have a crumbly mixture with some bigger chunks.
Sprinkle it generously over the fruit without packing it down.
Bake at 350°F for about 25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the fruit is bubbling around the edges. Let it cool for about 10 minutes.
Serve it warm with vanilla bean ice cream and, if you really want to commit to the situation, pumpkin spice whipped cream.

Apple Pie with All-Butter Crust
Apple pie has always been one of my favorites. Whenever I’m home in Massachusetts in the fall, apple picking and a homemade pie are pretty much a given. I have so many good memories of the oven warming the kitchen while it’s cold outside, the whole house smelling like cinnamon apples and buttery crust, and everyone finding their way into the kitchen for a slice. It’s one of those little traditions that makes being home feel like home.

Apple Turnovers 🍎
For my last day in New England, I had to make one more thing with my freshly picked apples before heading back to San Diego. Apple turnovers are one of my dad's favorites, and honestly, they're much easier than they look. Store-bought puff pastry does most of the heavy lifting, but you still get the warm cinnamon apples, buttery layers, and a kitchen that smells like fall. One last little taste of home. 🤎
