Crumb topping
Middle layer
Vanilla maple icing
How to make it
Heat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9-inch square baking dish (mine was rectangular because my grandma didn’t have a square one).
Combine crumb ingredients, working the butter in with your fingertips, two knives, or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
Separately mix dry and wet cake ingredients, then stir together just until combined.
Spread half the batter into the dish. Sprinkle with some crumbs and cinnamon sugar. Add remaining batter, then remaining crumbs.
Bake until a toothpick comes out clean or with moist crumbs. Begin checking at 35 minutes; the extra layers may need longer.
Mix icing, adding milk gradually to reach a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over cake and serve with tea

Apple Pie with All-Butter Crust
Apple pie has always been one of my favorites. Whenever I’m home in Massachusetts in the fall, apple picking and a homemade pie are pretty much a given. I have so many good memories of the oven warming the kitchen while it’s cold outside, the whole house smelling like cinnamon apples and buttery crust, and everyone finding their way into the kitchen for a slice. It’s one of those little traditions that makes being home feel like home.

Apple Turnovers 🍎
For my last day in New England, I had to make one more thing with my freshly picked apples before heading back to San Diego. Apple turnovers are one of my dad's favorites, and honestly, they're much easier than they look. Store-bought puff pastry does most of the heavy lifting, but you still get the warm cinnamon apples, buttery layers, and a kitchen that smells like fall. One last little taste of home. 🤎
